The аæèßäapp and аæèßäapp County Local Government A.S.P.I.R.E. Program works collaboratively with the principal, classroom teachers and support staff to integrate quality extended learning time into the plans and goals of each school.
An integral component of the regular school program
Site coordinators are available to work with school staff to meet the individual needs of students. Site coordinators work each day until 6 p.m.
Monthly information is distributed to A.S.P.I.R.E. families about school-wide events, programming and activities.
A.S.P.I.R.E. staff collaborates with families and school staff to enhance the feeling of a school family.
Quarterly parent meetings and/or student programs promote family engagement.
A.S.P.I.R.E. supports the school by teaching behavior expectations for staff and students, creating a respectful and positive environment.
Supporting academic goals
K-5th grade students performing below grade level on the previous year’s assessments in reading and math are invited to participate provided enough students are eligible for tutoring.
The 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant provides funding to give teachers extended pay to work with children in small groups who perform below grade level for twelve hours each week plus an additional hour of planning time.
Daily teacher-directed activities are aligned with Common Core and Essential Standards and are currently being updated to align with the North Carolina Common Core and Essential Standards.
A.S.P.I.R.E. provides regular access to technology to help improve 21st Century Learning Skills.
Reading lets adults model fluency and enthusiasm for literature.
A.S.P.I.R.E. collaborates with community partners and approved vendors to provide enrichment programming and field trips that enhance student learning.
Homework time
A.S.P.I.R.E. provides time for students to work on homework assignments; however, we are not a homework club. Parents are encouraged to review homework daily with their child.
Each A.S.P.I.R.E. site coordinator communicates individual student needs related to homework to parents and teachers.
Supplies and materials are accessible to students in an environment appropriate for study.
A.S.P.I.R.E. staff monitor and provide assistance on homework assignments.
Nutrition and physical activity
A.S.P.I.R.E. provides a daily snack and a light supper that meet or exceed federal, state and local nutritional guidelines and address individual dietary needs.
A.S.P.I.R.E. offers daily outside recreation to promote physical activity.
